British author
GP Taylor has been nominated amongst four other books
for a top American book award known as 'The Quills.'
The glitzy award ceremony will be broadcast nationally
on prime time American television in a show hosted by
Al Roker from the Today Show.
Taylor's second
novel 'Wormwood' an extraordinary tale of good and
evil set in the 18th century is one of only a small
number of Brititsh books nominated in these
prestigious awards. Taylor will contest the Book of
the Year in the young fiction section.
Taylor said that
he was extatic to be representing Great Britain and
that it was an honour to be selected for the
shortlist.
Wormwood was the
second best seller that Taylor had in the 2004 in the
USA, the first being Shadowmancer. He has been
nominated twice for the Nibbies in the UK.
You will be able
to vote for Wormwood from the 15th of August at

(this site is not yet open.)
The
Quills, is a celebration of the written word. This
literacy foundation and its accompanying awards
program have been created with the support of Reed
Business Information, parent of Publishers Weekly, the
book industry's leading and most authoritative
business journal.
The Quills is the first national book awards program
in which the people, not the critics, decide who's the
best of the best. Quills staff identified thousands of
English-language titles, released in the U.S between
August 1, 2004 and July 31, 2005; that had received
starred reviews or had appeared on national bestseller
lists during the year. Next, an invited group of
booksellers and librarians who made up the Nominating
Board voted for their favorites, yielding five top
titles in each of nineteen categories. Between August
15 and September 15, America's readers will have the
final say by casting their votes at
www.quillsvote.com,
or at voting kiosks in select Borders® Books & Music
stores (see
www.bordersstores.com
for participating locations).
On October 11, 2005, the winners will be announced at
The Quill Awards, a black-tie gala benefiting the
Quills Literacy Foundation, to be held at New York's
Chelsea Piers. Brian Williams of "The NBC Nightly
News" will host the ceremony, which includes special
appearances by Jon Stewart and Robert Klein, among
others. A one-hour television special hosted by Al
Roker and Jane Hanson will be broadcast on NBC
Universal Television stations on Saturday, October 22,
bringing a glamorous evening of books and authors to
the public. We hope that your enthusiasm for reading
is inspired by The Quills and that you'll support the
Foundation as we develop programs designed to foster
literacy in our communities.
